Discover something new in April
History lovers rejoice! Hampshire has some exciting adventures of discovery on offer this April! Dive into the untold story of the finding, excavation and recovery of Henry VIII’s favourite ship this Easter in a new immersive 4D cinema experience! Dive the Mary Rose 4D, at the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
Winchester’s 878 AD offers an immersive experience for all the family to discover early medieval Wessex and the sights, sounds and smells of Anglo-Saxon Winchester. It’s a new and exciting exploration of the city and its history! This two-part Anglo-Saxon adventure combines live performance, interactive activities, AR games, historic artefacts and more!
Celebrate Earth Day at Southampton City Art Gallery, Saturday 22 April. Join in a FREE day full of family fun at the Gallery, packed with arts, crafts and activities as part of the Wild Escape. Supported by Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants, with additional support from Art Fund.
Easter trails and hunts
Visit Brickstraveganza at SeaCity Museum on the 1st and 2nd April to celebrate all things made of LEGO® bricks with a weekend of fun at SeaCity Museum. Hunt the brick mini-eggs, marvel at the eggstraordinary LEGO displays and enjoy the free build room. Pre-book tickets to the museum to join the fun!
Milestones Museum of Living History needs your help, time travellers! This April, follow clues, solve puzzles and learn some fascinating history with Bun and Ted along the way to reveal the location of the missing Easter eggs through time in Bun & Ted’s Eggscellent Adventure (1 – 16 April). Crafts will be available too, included in admission!
Spring into a new season of science fun at Boom & Bloom. Join in with an eggstravaganza Easter hunt, go on a pollination exploration in the free live show Flower Power, help plant the Boom & Bloom garden and get hands-on with bubble-fun live science.
Join Gilbert White’s House & Gardens for an Easter Egg Hunt with a difference! It’s not only birds that lay eggs! Can you find 10 eggs hidden in the garden and use clues to work out which creature laid them?
Treat the whole family to Mottisfont’s Easter adventure trail, inspired by the classic village fete. Take part in traditional springtime activities including egg rolling and daffodil pinwheel-making. 1 – 16 April, normal admission plus £3 per trail, includes a chocolate or vegan and free from Rainforest Alliance Easter egg.
Enjoy an action-packed Easter at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, with an Easter trail, and Garden Explorer’s Club offering a range of activities and Archaeology sessions. Get outside and see spring flowers, hear bird songs, and explore the wildlife ponds for Pond Dipping. Can you find diving beetles and nimble pond skaters?
Pick up a trail sheet at Exbury Gardens and try to match the different types of birds with their eggs from the clues you will find. Also look out for special letters to identify the bird who laid the beautiful blue eggs. Return your completed trail sheet to claim a chocolate Easter treat, and for a chance to win a family membership.
Celebrate Easter at Manor Farm meeting the friendly animals! Join the story time trail sessions, and hunt for the golden egg!!
Hop along to Lepe Country Park between 1-16 April and take part in the Lepe, Hop & Hunt with Hazel. Unscramble all the clues on the bunny doors to help Hazel the rabbit to find her friends. Trail packs are available from Visitor Services for £3.
Spot all the signs of spring on the Big Butser Egg Roll Trail at Queen Elizabeth Country Park between 1-16 April 2023. Packs are £6 and include a guide, a pack of pencils, a springtime craft to take home and a rubber egg to decorate.
Look out for woodland creatures as you follow Royal Victoria Country Park’s self-guided trail, Run Rabbit Run. See how many eggs you can find along the way, and then tell the Easter bunny to claim your prize. The trail is £3 and runs from 1-16 April 2023.
This Easter, traverse the Springtime at Staunton Country Park’s children’s trail. Stroll through the country park and solve the clues to find all the signs of spring. Packs are £4 and include a trail guide, a pack of pencils and a springtime craft to take home.
During the Easter holidays get involved in a range of Easter and Springtime themed craft activities at The Watercress Line. Decorate an Easter card, make paper spring flowers, create a colourful Easter chick, create a design on a stone, make ‘bouncing bunnies’ or a Bug House from different materials.
The Brick People are bringing LEGO® bricks back to The Brickworks Museum this Easter – book now for oodles of interactive family fun on the 5th and 6th April. AND on 12th and 13th April The Brickworks gets really wild with an eco-themed hedgehog trail and craft event #spiky
Enjoy Easter-themed crafts for families at the Army Flying Museum every weekday between 10.30am and 1.30pm from Monday 3rd April to Friday 14th April. There will also be a fun Easter Egg trail around the Museum throughout the school holiday. Pay once and come back free for a year.
Winchester’s Military Museums have a range of exciting activities going on this Easter holiday! From trails to colouring in, arts and crafts such as Easter bunny making, Rifleman Eggbert, create tiger and eggbox tanks. The site is home to The Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum, The Gurkha Museum, The Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum, HorsePower The Museum of the King’s Royal Hussars, The Rifles Museum and The Adjutant General’s Corps Museum. FREE entry for children to all the museums!
Fun Easter Activities
Starting with; Paultons Park, be enchanted by their “Hoppy Easter” event running from 1st-16th April! Guaranteed to put a spring in your step, guests will be able to meet Bobtail and Betty Bunny for Easter cuddles and there will be giant, colourful Easter Eggs and Bunnies decorating the entrance.
Free falconry displays, a free Easter bunny hunt and seasonal crafts are all on offer at Fort Nelson this Easter. Come and join in the fun at the Victorian fort this school holiday but remember to book your admission tickets in advance at the Royal Armouries.
Two children’s TV favourites are coming to Spinnaker Tower for the ultimate days out this Easter. Meet Hey Duggee on April 5th and 6th and JJ from Cocomelon on April 12th and 13th. Visitors enjoy all-day admission to the Tower to experience its spectacular 23-mile views, meet & greet with the characters, a free special Spinnaker trail and 50% off kid’s lunch boxes in the Spinnaker Kitchen & Bar.
From 3rd – 14th April at Queen Elizabeth Country Park Laser Squad is recruiting for the next generation of Heist Masters in an adrenaline-fueled family-friendly Laser Tag experience, Bunny Heist. You’ll work with your crew to execute the perfect heist and crack open their vault in a unique laser tag experience for all the family.
Join in some fun Easter Activities at Tudor House & Garden this school holidays. Learn some brilliant new printing techniques and create some stunning artworks inspired by spring in two family art activities, Wednesday 5 April and Thursday 6 April.
The Playmakers’ Let’s Explore Day (Wed 12 April) features theatre workshops perfect for children and young people (from school years 2 – 11 and ages 16 – 25) to be creative and meet others during the school holidays, to learn about storytelling, dance, songs and sound, and outdoor performance. Workshops take place at Theatre Royal Winchester and are £10 each, with limited numbers.

Hop, skip and jump into Easter at Beaulieu (main image) where history comes to life between 1st – 16th April. Meet colourful characters, see historic vehicles and spot the famous Easter Bunny, play traditional outdoor games for the whole family to enjoy and you could even ride on the magical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!
Reconnect, discover and recharge at Buckler’s Hard this April. From the return of the River Cruise to seasonal springtime walks and maritime history, there’s something for the whole family. Plus, entry to the village is free (a parking charge applies).
Why not try something new this Easter and rent off-road or comfort electric bikes from Cyclexperience? If visitors would like to see more and do more but would prefer not to be pedalling for hours, then these are the bikes to choose from.
Soar to the Hawk Conservancy Trust this Easter and catch their brand new flying display, Masters of the Sky! This is the Trust’s largest flying display ever as part of their daily timetable, which includes a further two flying displays, activities, trails and talks for the whole family to enjoy.
Join New Forest Activities on the Beaulieu River for an Easter egg hunt with a twist! Head out in their stable Canadian canoes as you navigate the Beaulieu River. Soak up a show in April
The well-known stories coming to the New Theatre Royal this April are the perfect treat! See The Hunchback of Notre Dame based on the novel and showcasing songs from the Disney animation. Julia Donaldson’s enchanting Tales From Acorn Wood will delight younger audiences in the Easter holidays.
There is plenty for kids to see at Theatre Royal Winchester throughout the month starting with The Showstopper! Kids Show on 2nd. An improvised musical show where kids’ suggestions are turned into marvellous, musical adventures right in front of their noses. Right up to 23rd – 24 with I Spy With My Little Eye – Based on the picture book by Steven Lee.
Join SpongeBob and friends for The SpongeBob Musical at Mayflower Theatre from 5th – 8th April, for a hilarious deep-sea pearl of a show that will make a splash with the whole family and see the citizens of Bikini Bottom come together to save the fate of their undersea world.
Isle of Wight April events
Whether you’re looking to escape and unwind in the great outdoors or entertain the family, there’s something for everyone on the Isle of Wight this Easter. Save on ferry travel when you book direct with accommodation! Giving you all the more reason to choose the Island for your Easter holiday.
Join performers at Carisbrooke Castle for Easter Escapades, 7-10 April, four days of Easter fun. There’ll be plenty of opportunities for the whole family to get involved in.
