About This Attraction
Theatre Royal Winchester is an intimate and beautiful edwardian-style theatre in the city centre. It is the only surviving cine-variety theatre in the country.
Theatre Royal Winchester events include a wide range of the best touring drama, stand up comedy, dance, music, talks and cabaret as well as children’s performances, traditional family pantomime and community events. There’s sure to be something for you to enjoy.
Hat Fair Festival is the UK’s longest continually running festival of Outdoor Arts. Over 3 days each summer audiences to enjoy around 200 performances, presented for free, throughout Winchester city centre. Christmas shoppers can also enjoy the winter festival Woolly Hat Fair.

Due to COVID-19, all live performances and activities at Theatre Royal Winchester are currently suspended until 31 August 2020 and this year’s Hat Fair festival has been cancelled. Due to the temporary closure of the theatre and its Cafe Bar is having a serious impact on the finances of Play to the Crowd and its mission to delight and unite people through the power of live performance. Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm.
The Box Office remains open on show days until 15 minutes after the performance begins. For performances on Sundays the Box Office will open at least 1 hour before the show starts.
The theatre’s Cafe Bar is open every day from 8am (10am on Sundays).
