The Story of the Hampshire Cottage Garden

February 11, 2016

Join Gilbert White & The Oates Collections for a weekend of garden treats, with our annual Snowdrop Weekend and an insightful talk on the Hampshire Cottage Garden.
Gilbert White was as much of a gardener and he was a naturalist and his garden at this home, is very much a gardener’s garden a perfect mix of beauty and practicality. On the weekend of the 20th-21st February, we are celebrating the beautiful snowdrop with reduced garden admission. For only £6 you can get a chance to see our garden and enjoy a walk amongst the first signs of spring with snowdrops, daffodils and crocuses springing up all around our 25 acres of grounds with some additional information about the snowdrop. The why not visit our Eighteenth Century Tea Parlour afterwards for a warming drink or bite to eat.
On Saturday 20th Head gardener David Standing, will be giving a talk on ‘The Story of the Hampshire Cottage Garden’ at the Museum at 12pm. David who is an expert gardener and engaging speaker, will give a two hour talk on the history and heritage of cottage gardens, styles and plants.
