Theatre Royal Winchester is looking forward to hosting two sing-along versions of family-favourites, musicals Encanto and The Greatest Showman on Saturday 17 June.

Encanto tells the story of the Madrigals – an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed placed called the Encanto, which has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift… except daughter Mirabel! However, Mirabel may be the Madrigals’ last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger – and it is she who tries to save that magic.
Meanwhile, The Greatest Showman tells the story of famous showman, P.T. Barnum, whose hired circus performers – including a bearded lady and a dwarf – face discrimination; while his tour with a famous singer, celebrated by the aristocracy, sees him neglect his family and distance himself from his troupe. But, a fire that destroys his circus inspires him to rethink his life – build a new show with the performers and spend time with his loved ones.
The theatre’s special screenings of Encanto and The Greatest Showman not only feature each film’s song lyrics on-screen for audiences to sing-along with, but a live host who will teach the audience dance moves to re-enact during the screening. Plus, a free props bag (for audience members aged 3+). Fancy dress is encouraged! With full audience participation essential – the audience are the stars!
The screenings are brought to the theatre by the producers behind Sing-a-Long-a The Sound of Music, Grease and Frozen to name a few – with the sing-along version of The Sound of Music making its debut in London in 1999, before going on tour across the UK and the phenomenon going global with shows across America, Canada, Australia, and Europe.
*Sing-a-Long-a Encanto and Sing-a-Long-a The Greatest Showman are film screenings, not live stage shows.
Earlier this year, Theatre Royal Winchester announced it would host a number of screenings of National Theatre Live productions. It now extends its offer with these special sing-along versions of these family favourites, Encanto and The Greatest Showman.

The screenings are possible following the installation of a laser projector, cinema screen, live streaming equipment and surround sound system in 2021. Play to the Crowd, the charity that runs the theatre, was able to complete this project thanks to a generous grant by the Garfield Weston Foundation, which awarded the charity money to help it continue to improve and extend its offer, accessibility and audience experience.
Tickets for NT Live cost £18 each, with discounted rates for Members and Concessions.
