National Bike Week

June 14, 2016

It’s #NationalBikeWeek this week and to celebrate we are going to share with you the best places to hire a bike or if you already have that covered, the best places to cycle in and around Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Right in the heart of the New Forest you’ll find New Forest Activities in Beaulieu, the perfect location to hire a bike for half or full days exploring! With routes from just 2 miles, to longer routes that will take you on off road tracks, to local villages and beautiful scenery. With your bike hire you’ll also get a choice of a free trail to help you on your way.

Based in the unspoilt village of Burley, Forest Leisure Cycling is conveniently located close to the huge network of National Park’s trails with unlimited completely free parking nearby. From the picturesque village location in Burley you’ll be able to cycle along a famous Old Railway, visit the Deer Sanctuary, enjoy the Woodland Trails and expect a great chance of seeing Deer and other forest wildlife. On the majority of the routes you can relax at a real forest inn, or indulge in a sumptuous cream tea in one of the many welcoming tea rooms, all in the most stunning New Forest scenery.

If you already have your trusty 2 wheeled friend, why not pack them up and take a trip to Moors Valley Country Park (they also offer cycle hire). Follow waymarked cycle routes, make your own route along the many miles of gravel tracks or explore beyond the boundaries of Moors Valley.

Or why not cycle through the beautiful Hamble area. Take in the history and sites throughout the Hamble Valley area. From routes that take in Woolston, Botley and the quaint little village of Hamble.

Queen Elizabeth Country Park and Royal Victoria Country Park also make for the perfect bases for a great bike ride! Head to Queen Elizabeth Country Park and test some of their most exhilarating cycle routes – they have trails for both the beginner and the keen cyclist. There are two permissive bike trails which are clearly way marked on the ground. The Novice mountain – bike trail 6km (3.7 miles) and the Advanced mountain – bike trail 5km (3.1 miles)

Explore the fantastic woodland in Royal Victoria Country Park and enjoy all the seasons from pinks and blues in the spring to the riot of reds, golds and browns that can be seen in the trees in Autumn.

Cyclists in Hampshire are spoilt for choice, with over 750 miles of off-road cycle routes for beginners and challenging trails for the enthusiast.

There are over 30 different trails available to download from the Hampshire County Council website and you can view them here.
