With the nights creeping in and the days getting shorter, visitors to Milestones, Hampshire’s museum of living history,  can expect to encounter some frightfully fun family activities this October half term (Saturday 23 October to Sunday 31 October 2021). Fearless families who visit the cobbled streets of the museum, operated by Hampshire Cultural Trust, can not only enjoy exploring the faithfully recreated shops and buildings of the past but will also be able to experience a spooktacular set of Halloween activities including trails, crafts and stories. Milestones is even open on Monday 25 October for an extra day of half term fun!

Visitors can take a trip around the streets of Milestones and spot the ghostly ghouls and fearsome phantoms haunting the museum’s buildings. A fun trick-or-treat trail is on offer around the museum, with a bag of spooky sweets to enjoy at the end. There will also be make-and-take creepy crafts to keep little vampires entertained at home. Come dressed to impress in your most spook-tacular Halloween costume and claim a sweet treat!

Fright nights are returning to the sinister streets at Milestones with spooky after-hours tours. Visitors can tour the museum after dark and hear the tales that are too terrifying to tell during the day. Halloween themed fancy dress is encouraged and visitors should be prepared for a few scares along the way!

Alongside all the monster mayhem, Milestones has lots more to offer. Visitor can take a trip to the new for 2021 Mr Simpson’s Teddy Bear Museum and learn about Tino the teddy and over 250 of his friends! The maze of Victorian and 1930s streets packed with shops, factories and houses based on original buildings from in and around Basingstoke are waiting to be explored. Visitors can discover shopping habits of the past at the milliner’s, saddler’s and ironmonger’s and experience rationing first hand in Abraham’s sweet shop where you can swap your ration coupon for some good old-fashioned favourites. The whole family will enjoy taking on the authentic classic games in the recently refurbished Milestones Pier before settling into the family-friendly Baverstock Arms for a pint. And with a huge collection of restored vintage vehicles, including a Victorian tram, classic motorbikes, a Romany caravan and even a 19th century steam-powered fire engine, there really is something for everyone at Milestones this October half term.

Milestones is operated by Hampshire Cultural Trust an independent charity established in 2014. Hampshire Cultural Trust promotes Hampshire as a county that offers outstanding cultural experiences to both its residents and visitors.
