Autumn starts on the 22nd September, the children are back at school and we are all in full swing of the normal routines but have no fear, the fun had in summer is not too distant a memory. We have some ideas below on places to go to make the start of autumn awesome!

As autumn falls over the South Downs landscape head to Butser Ancient Farm (left) to discover how our ancestors would have lived and adapted to the changing seasons. Enjoy re-enactments, fire festivals, ancient skills demonstrations and hands on crafts on selected weekends and school holidays.

Until the end of September you can still visit the beautiful Houghton Lodge Gardens situated in Stockbridge and if you are lucky enough, the resident alpacas may pop over to see you to say hello.

Their ‘Halloween Archery Pumpkin Shooting‘ session allows you to shoot spooky-themed targets, whilst learning the ancient art of archery. Or opt for their ‘Spooky Halloween River Tour’ and paddle the Beaulieu River after dark.

From 11th September ‘Threads in Sheds‘ (right) is the latest special exhibition at Whitchurch Silk Mill featuring tapestry art created by members of the British Tapestry Group. These new pieces, inspired by heritage and weaving traditions, feature new innovative techniques and three-dimensional forms on display for the first time.
