It’s no surprise really because the attraction is one of the largest bird parks in the UK and there’s plenty to see on top of bird watching with a superb aquarium, the Jenny Wren farm and even a fantastic outdoor flying display. The park is set within 26 acres of stunning landscaped gardens so for a dry day it’s simply perfect as you can also enjoy a family picnic within the grounds. If you prefer not to pack your own food there are numerous delightful cafes within the ground and plenty of different food choices.

Entrance to Birdworld varies in price depending on the time of year. The park itself is open all year round with the exception of Christmas Day and Boxing Day however, there is far more to see during the British Summer Time (from March to October) and prices rise during these months. In the summer, (April to end of September) expect to pay £15.95 per adult, child from 3 to 6 £12.95 and child 7 to 15 £13.95. A family ticket is £49.95. The price slides as the weather cools down and at its cheapest, an adult ticket is £8.95, child from 3 to 6 £5.95, 7 to 15 £6.95 and family ticket £27 but at these times, the park is only part-open. At the Jenny Wren farm children can visit the petting area and hold mice, guinea pigs and rabbits plus there’s an unmissable opportunity to pet baby goats. Throughout the day there are many interesting bird shows and feeding demonstrations. Don’t miss out on the informative talks which are aimed at children and adults alike so they are easy to understand. If you get to see the Kookaburras demonstration you’ll be in for a thrilling treat, it’s extremely amusing because these birds like to tease and are very disobedient!

All the animals at the attraction (birdsbirdworld, farm and fish) are very well looked after in a spacious area. Don’t miss out on the penguin beach and the pool which is great fun to watch especially as the penguins like to show off but the real stars of the show have to be the parrots and cockatoos who really enjoy seeing friendly visitors and will do their best to grab your attention! Expect to see a huge number of other exciting birds including macaws, budgies, owls and pink flamingos. Don’t forget to buy plenty of bird and duck feed so the children can get really involved and interact with the birds themselves.

After you’ve seen the birds definitely take time out to visit the tea room which boasts an outdoor terrace, it’s clean and well-serviced with a superb collection of tea-time treats including cakes, fruit, sweet delicacies and plenty of biscuits to dunk! If you have time after tea, take a walk round the gardens and enjoy the view – it’s large and spacious and while it might be busy it never feels overcrowded.

All in all, Birdworld is a superb family day out for all ages from tots to teens and worth the trip if you’re not a local. Educational and enjoyable – it’s something that will imprint on your memory and your children’s for many years to come.
