Stumpwork poppy brooch embroidery day class

The D-Day Story

Date: 30th Sep 2022 - 16th Aug 2022
Time: 10.30am - 4.30pm
Price: Range from £135

Royal School of Needlework tutor, Anita Harrison, will be teaching this stunning Stumpwork poppy brooch at The D-Day Story on Friday 30 September. This class celebrates the long-standing partnership between The D-Day Story and the RSN, which stitched the Overlord Embroidery from 1968 to 1974. The class is suitable for all levels although some hand embroidery experience would be useful.

During this one-day class you will learn how to make your own poppy brooch with wire-edged scarlet cotton petals and three-dimensional centre. Intermediate techniques are used to attach wire along each petal design-line prior to securing it to the fabric using ‘trailing’. Then, the wired petals are carefully cut around and applied to the raised embroidery centre, before being stitched onto the brooch fitting. The finished poppy brooch is about 6.5cm in diameter.

Anita will teach you all the stitches you will require to complete the design, and full written instructions and all materials are included in the kit if you do not complete the brooch on the day.

As well as an exclusive insight into how the Overlord Embroidery was designed and stitched, you will also receive a free pass for one visit to the museum, valid for 12 months from the date of the class.
