A Woman and A Rifleman: A History of Women and the Regiment

Winchester’s Military Museums

Date: 4th Mar 2026 - 28th Mar 2026
Time: 10am - 4pm
Price: Range from £6.50

Military history is often told through the stories of men on the front line—but these are not the only stories worth telling.

This March, to mark International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, The Rifleman’s Museum presents a temporary exhibition exploring the lives and experiences of women connected to the Regiment. From wives and families who supported loved ones from home, to women who served as soldiers in the modern Regiment, this exhibition brings together voices that are often overlooked.

Discover individual stories that reveal the vital roles women have played—whether in uniform or behind the scenes. These accounts offer a more complete picture of regimental life, showing how service, sacrifice, resilience, and community extend far beyond the battlefield.
