Events to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles in May!

The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May! Why not celebrate the occasion with Hampshire’s Top Attractions? From live entertainment to history-themed activities, music, face-painting, and a range of services and events. You will find plenty of events to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles in May here!

End of April

On 21st April join Whitchurch Silk Mill for the launch of ‘The Windsor’, a Limited Edition celebration silk woven to honour the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. Learn more about the design and production process of ‘The Windsor’, be the first to see the finished silk, and have the opportunity to purchase one of the scarves.

Head to Theatre Royal Winchester on 29th April for an entertaining and informative audio-visual talk by a royal historian about 1000 years of good, bad, great, and mad kings and queens; the twists and turns of the British monarchy from William the Conqueror to King Charles III, in Tracy Borman’s: How to be a Good Monarch

Saturday 6th May

A gun salute will take place to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III at Fort Nelson on 6 May. The 21-round salute will take place at the same time as the King is crowned at approximately midday – admission is free.

Head to Milestones Museum of Living History this Coronation weekend for a royally good time! Enjoy 1950s-themed activities – the era of King Charles III’s childhood, reminisce on the social history of the era, and discover more about coronations of the past, plus view vintage vehicles from on the outdoor green. 

If you are on the Isle of Wight, head to historic royal Osborne for a live screening of King Charles III’s coronation on Saturday, 6th of May. Free entry. 

Sunday 7th May

Bring your picnic for a garden party in celebration of the Coronation on May 7th at Gilbert White’s House & Gardens Field Studies Centre. There will be children’s games, music, and face painting, and the horsebox bar will be open! The party starts at noon and will go on into the early evening. 

The Watercress Line

The Watercress Line and Alresford town are throwing a splendid afternoon of music, entertainment, fun, and celebration, including a brass band, Morris Men, face painting, a wine bar, and a variety of stalls & games. 

Monday 8th May

Visit Royal Victoria Country Park on 8 May to experience the majesty of the Coronation Open Day at the Royal Celebration Gala. Celebrate the King’s coronation and the 160th Anniversary of Queen Victoria’s first visit to the hospital with live music, vintage vehicles, laser tag, and much more. 

Head to The Needles Landmark Attraction where you can see the Pearly King and Queen Cabaret whilst enjoying the family entertainment and activities.

Coronation Weekend in Hampshire

Everyone is welcome to celebrate this moment in history through a range of services and activities at Winchester Cathedral. Known for its historic royal ties, the Cathedral will be adorned with unique and symbolic floral arrangements, banners, and other special touches to mark this momentous occasion. On Friday 5th May, a public Thanksgiving Service will begin at 7.00pm. On Saturday 6th May, a screening of King Charles III Coronation will be available to watch from inside Winchester Cathedral.

Be a King or Queen for the day on 6th, 7th and 8th May, at The Mary Rose Museum!  There will also be a Royal Navy gun salute at mid-day on the day of the coronation.

Celebrate the Coronation of the King and Her Majesty the Queen Consort with New Forest Activities this May. Did you know that the New Forest was originally a royal hunting ground? Why not join New Forest Activities and learn to shoot a bow and arrow, a staple weapon King William I used in this very woodland?

Or explore the stunning New Forest with its rich royal history, by hopping onto a Cyclexperience bike and exploring the scenic trails that wind through the breathtaking landscape.
