Fans of period dramas and gothic thrillers are in for an evening of spine-tingling tales when The Haunting comes to Theatre Royal Winchester from Thursday 05 October.
The Haunting by Hugh Janes is adapted from ghost stories written by Charles Dickens and opens on an ancient, crumbling mansion where two men stumble across a dark secret. It begins with book dealer, David Filde, employed by Lord Gray to catalogue his impressive library. But as a series of strange events unfolds to keep Filde from his work, he must convince his sceptical employer that the mysterious phenomena he is experiencing is real and they must journey together to discover the source of the terrifying visitations.
The Haunting is brought to the stage by Conn Artists Theatre Company whose productions (often a reimagining or adaptation of a classic or neglected work) resonate with universal themes about the human condition; are relevant; and have a social impact on today’s society. Conn Artists’ recent tour of A Perfect Likeness – an imagined encounter between Dickens and Lewis Carroll – received outstanding reviews and The Haunting will reunite actors David Stephens (Gray) and Ross Muir (Filde). The company’s previous productions have also included Mary Rose and The Importance of Being Oscar.
This gripping adaptation will have audiences on the edge of their seat.
The Haunting by Hugh Janes will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Thursday 05 October to Saturday 07 October, various times. Recommended age: 12+. For more information or to book tickets visit theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
