A darkly comic tale – Austen’s Lady Susan

April 17, 2024

Austin's Women: Lady Susan Dyad Productions

Fans of Jane Austen will enjoy the darkly comic Austen’s Women: LADY SUSAN, which comes to Theatre Royal Winchester on Thursday 02 May.

LADY SUSAN is a brand-new one-woman show about society and the women trapped within it – featuring the devil-may-care black widow character of Lady Susan, who is hunting down fortune; rebellious daughter Frederica; long-suffering sister in law Catherine; matriarch Mrs De Courcy; and untroubled best friend Alicia. Lady Susan transports audiences to the Georgian era, where it explores the characters’ struggles, desires, temptations and manipulations – while at its heart is the charming, but powerful and scheming Lady Susan.

Based on Jane Austen’s first full-length work from 1794, and created entirely from letters, the show is brought to the stage by the award-winning theatre company, Dyad Productions – a regular fixture at the Edinburgh Fringe whose work garners five-star reviews and who tour the UK and world. Previous productions include I, Elizabeth, Female Gothic and A Room of One’s Own, which received a warm welcome when it was performed at the theatre on International Women’s Day last year. Lady Susan is performed by Rebecca Vaughan.

Austen’s Women: LADY SUSAN is a Pick Your Price event meaning audiences can opt for the ticket price that works best for them – with tickets starting from just £8.

Austen’s Women: LADY SUSAN will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Thursday 02 May at 7.30pm. Recommended age: 10+. For more information or to book tickets visit theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
