This July is packed with fun! Fill the summer holidays with memorable days out, Hampshire’s Top Attractions has so many wonderful attractions and days out to choose from that you are sure to find something for everyone to enjoy. From live shows, outdoor theatres, science shows, days out in nature, fun events, and more, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Fabulous festivals and events this July at attractions

The Hat Fair (1st – 3rd July) is the UK’s longest-running festival of Outdoor Arts. A three-day, family-friendly festival of outdoor theatre, dance, comedy, music, and of course ‘Hatters’ (street performers), which takes over the city streets and green spaces of Winchester. Friday and Saturday are free, Sunday is a ticketed event for those looking for a more relaxed festival atmosphere. 

Join the Hawk Conservancy Trust for an African Sunset Safari 9th and the 29th July! Your safari guide will transport you to the Savannah for the evening, where you’ll experience a spectacle of African birds filling the sky at sunset. Experience owls, eagles and vultures close-up, with theatre, music and special effects too! 

This July The Brickworks Museum in Bursledon turns 125. Visit the museum to help them celebrate this monumental achievement and explore their incredible new art installation which involves 2,000 bricks…hanging from the ceiling! And on 10th July they are also holding their not-to-be-missed Steampunk at the Steam Museum event. 

Enjoy the sights and sounds of a weekend of heritage diesel traction at The Watercress Line on 15th – 17th July. The Diesel Gala event will see the railway operated by visiting diesel engines and it’s home-fleet of diesel locomotives, showcasing varied types of diesel locomotives produced during the 1960s modernisation plan.

Jane Austen’s House

Join Jane Austen’s House for their annual Regency Dress Up Day on 16th July! This is the occasion to swish around in your most fabulous Regency outfits, learn about Regency fashion, and enjoy a day of living like you’re in an Austen novel! 

It’s a busy month at Queen Elizabeth Country Park with the Stay Wild Festival taking place from 16-17 July. The family fun weekend will host plenty of activities including bushcraft, outdoor cooking, archery, and falconry. Also from 22 July there is a new summer trail and craft activities to enjoy.

Superheroes meet farm animals at Manor Farm this July with the launch of Super Farm. Starting on 18 July, enjoy this superhero-themed trail around the farm. Plus the weekend of 9 July is Bee & Honey weekend with tasting, demonstrations, and hives on site.

Live shows in July

Get your concert fix this July at MAST Mayflower Studios! They have a variety of one nighter’s to fill your evenings. Join Tom Jones It’s Not Unusual, Madonna Into The Groove or even sing along at the Don’t Stop Believin’ end-of-the-night anthem show. There is something for everybody!

On 6th July award-winning writer and comedian Andy Hamilton is delighted to finally be getting out of the house as he heads to New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth. Join the master of comedy for a hilarious and illuminating evening of comic reflection for a long-awaited night out.

Winchester Science Centre

Delve into the fascinating world of electricity in a brand new free live show, Sparks at Winchester Science Centre. Watch as static electricity and currents are brought to life through fun experiments. Discover more about how electricity is made with the atom balancer demo. And can you generate your own electricity through pedal power – let’s find out! 

West End performers will bring relaxing melodies to Gilbert White’s House & Gardens, July 8, at 7pm. The ‘Summer Daze’ performance has classic tunes including Summertime, Valerie and Here Comes the Sun! The star duo, John Donovan and Alison Carter-Nesbitt have performed at the BAFTAs and Olivier Awards respectively.

There are two fun outdoor productions at Itchen Valley Country Park this July. War of the Worlds on Friday 15th July at 7pm and King Arthur on Friday 29th July at 3pm.  Get your tickets here

Kickstart the summer at Mayflower Theatre with School of Rock (18th – 23rd July), the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on the iconic movie starring Jack Black. Featuring 14 new songs, all the original songs from the movie, and a band of insanely talented kids that play live every show, it will warm your heart and blow you away in equal measure. 

Head Outdoors for a family adventure

New Forest Activities are your go-to destination this July for all things outdoor adventure! Take to the Beaulieu River in kayak or canoe and spot the array of wildlife the river has to offer, or grab your gang and head to the BattleZone for some laser-tag fun in the forest!  

Unleash your wild explorer this summer at Marwell Zoo! Their BRICKOSAURS! Evolution mammoth collection of brick sculptures just got even bigger with the arrival of 7 new additions! Plus, spot exotic and endangered animals along the way and download their new app for fun animal facts and a dino quiz!

Chawton House

Chawton House are hosting two fantastic outdoor theatre performances in July- As You Like It (14th) and The Importance of Being Earnest (26th). Bring along a picnic, find a spot on the South Lawn, and enjoy an evening of theatre on the beautiful South Lawn. 

​​Enjoy a fun family day out at the Army Flying Museum’s Wallop Wheels & Wings event on Saturday 2nd July, which will showcase 50 classic aircraft, 300 super and classic cars, and 100 motorcycles. There’s something for everyone, including a shopping village, beer tent, food stalls, live music, and children’s activities.

Coming to Staunton Country Park on 30 July is a live outdoor show of The Wind in the Willows. Acclaimed theatre group the Pantaloons will be providing the show at the park as part of their national tour. Tickets are on sale now.

 Enjoy an action-packed summer at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens with, Pond Dipping, archaeology activities and Jubilee theme Spotter Trail “celebrating summer”. Event charges apply, normal garden admission applies, booking is essential for events.
