Visitors will feel the wind in their hair as they launch themselves for a once in a lifetime, charity-inspired zip wire ride across a water-filled Naval basin. 
 
The 250 metre long zip wire, from a 14 metre tall tower, is in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and is sure to be one of the highlights of Meet Your Navy, the 3 day event taking place from July 25th – 27th at Portsmouth Naval Base.
 
The zip wire travels at speeds up to 15 miles an hour across the famous naval basin no. 1, currently home to two Hunt class ships and finishes alongside HMS Victory, possibly the world’s most famous warship.
 
There is a £15 registration fee for those taking part in the zip wire and the charity has urged all participants to aim for at least £100 in sponsorship. Further details about registration are available on www.mariecurie.org.uk/events or by telephoning 01883 832 665
 
Meet Your Navy is being staged jointly by the Royal Navy and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. 
 
The three-day event provides a memorable opportunity to tour up to 20 naval ships, witness arena events, air displays and rub shoulders with the men and women of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Fleet Auxillary and other members of Britain’s armed forces.
 
The ticket also includes free entry to all the historic ships and  museums at the Historic Dockyard.
