To celebrate the patron Saint George's Day, the Spinnaker Tower is hosting a 'sky high' cheese and wine tasting event all day on Wednesday 23 April 2008 (free with entry to the Tower). PLUS if your name is 'George' or starts with 'Georg.' (for example Georgia or Georgio, etc.), and you can prove it with photo ID you can visit the Spinnaker Tower for free on St George's Day! To support the rise in demand for English food and drink, the Spinnaker Tower has partnered up with the Hampshire-based Wickham Vineyard and Wiltshire-based Lyburn Farmhouse Cheeses, to celebrate the past, present and future of a nation whose patriotism is decidedly increasing. So why not join them, by 'tucking into a slice of English heritage' this St George's Day? The Spinnaker Tower is trying to dispel the myth that England doesn't make good wine and cheese by inviting visitors to sample a selection of tasty local produce, on one of the view decks at the 170m iconic tower, as well as offering the opportunity to purchase them. Best known for his dragon-slaying techniques, St George was also known for his love of English cuisine. This included excellent wines and first-rate cheeses, the techniques for which were brought to England by the Romans around 2000 years ago (a few hundred years before St George lived). The Spinnaker Tower external lights will also be set to red and white revolving in honour of our great Saint's Day. The Spinnaker Tower is open daily from 10am (excluding Christmas Day).
