The Spinnaker Tower has launched a competition in conjunction with the Meet your Navy event on 25 to 27 July 2008 at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The iconic Tower is inviting visitors to send in their Navy inspired photos, taken from 100m high.
 
The attraction is 'flagging up' the unique birds-eye viewpoint on offer at the Tower where visitors can see the dockyard and naval base from on high and including the majestic HMS Warrior and HMS Victory ships as well as the contemporary elements of the Navy within the area.
 
From now until 14 July visitors to the Tower are being encouraged to take photographs from the view decks to be showcased at the Meet Your Navy event in one month's time. All photos entered into the competition will be displayed at the Spinnaker Tower's stand at the Historic Dockyard during the weekend-long 'Meet Your Navy' event, and visitors to the stand will vote for their favourite.
 
Heather Deeley, Marketing Manager of the visitor attraction, said: "People can take photos of the dockyard from a very different angle to any they would be able to find on the ground. The ships and machinery in the dockyard are absolutely huge, so the Spinnaker Tower is the ideal place from which to take pictures of them, as well as having the opportunity to photograph the background - that is, the historic Navy harbour itself."
 
So whether you are a professional or it's simply a hobby, people of all levels of skill are being asked to send in their images as soon as they can for the opportunity to win a VIP guided tour of the Tower for two adults and two children with lunch at a nearby restaurant, as well as a professional mounted version of the winning photograph.

During the actual Meet Your Navy event, the Tower will be offering the best view of the activities taking place at the dockyard: Royal Navy ships new and old, an aircraft carrier, landing ship, frigates, destroyers, as well as helicopters and other vehicles and activities of the Royal and visiting Navies.*
