Jack the baby penguin is getting on Swimmingly. PDF Print E-mail

Now that he is big enough, three month old Jack, the baby Humboldt penguin, will soon be
joining his brother Shuffles and the other penguins in the pool at Paultons - but first he must
be introduced to water!

  Jack the baby penguin

Unlike the other penguins, Jack was hatched and hand reared at the Park and is not familiar
with water so, in order to try out his swimming abilities, he was gently coaxed into a small pond
to see how he would cope. Thankfully he passed this test with flying colours, happily paddling
and splashing about, much to the relief of his keeper and the amusement of visitors at the Park
who were witness to Jack’s first big adventure!

Geoff Masson, Livestock Manager at Paultons says “Jack’s feathers still need to be a little
more waterproof but now we are happy he knows what to do he will soon be put in to join the
other birds in the large Penguin Pool at the Park”.
With twice daily keeper talks, Jack will shortly be seen with the other Humboldt Penguins that
are part of over 50 attractions at Paultons, which opens daily at 10 a.m. until Monday 29th
