Black out for Spinnaker Tower during Earth Hour |

Having had its lights green for 'Green Month', the Spinnaker Tower will be in darkness for one hour on 29 March. Kicking off the 'Lights out Hampshire' event, the external lighting of the tower is set to be turned off between 8.00pm and 9.00pm this coming Saturday, helping to highlight the small actions that people can make to join the battle against global warming. Keen to 'do their bit', staff at the Spinnaker Tower have also taken many other steps to help the environment including reducing the level of lighting inside the building, limiting the time that the lights are on outside the tower (switching off at midnight as opposed to leaving them on until 2.00am), printing all new leaflets on recycled paper, and introducing an electronic newsletter to reduce paper usage. In addition, many products sold in the Café/Bar are locally produced and the coffee and black tea are fair trade certified. Paul Mahy, Commercial Manager at the Spinnaker Tower commented: "Green Month, Earth Hour and Lights Out Hampshire are all about simply trying to do what you can to reduce the impact you have on the world. We wanted to get involved in whatever small way we can and are very proud of the changes we're making as one of the leading visitor attractions in Hampshire and the UK." The Spinnaker Tower is open daily from 10am (excluding Christmas Day). See www.spinnakertower.co.uk or call 02392 857520 to book in advance or to find out more!
