Basing House

Unearth the amazing stories of Basing House, the nationally important historical ruins of the largest private house in Tudor England, which suffered at the hands of Oliver Cromwell during the English Civil War.

Start your visit at the Visitor Centre, just a five minute walk along the River Loddon from our free car park. There you’ll begin to discover the story of Basing House, by stepping inside the magnificent battle-scarred Tudor Great Barn, dating from 1535. Learn more fascinating stories about Basing House in the museum full of artefacts, many of them found during archaeological excavations of the site.

Follow the ‘Tudor’ and ‘Civil War’ themed Pod Cast tours around the magnificent ruins of the new and old Basing House. Marvel at the beautiful Jacobean and Lady of the house gardens.
